Bearing is another useful hardware used mostly in machines and vehicles to make sure that they continue rotary motion precisely. Bearings do that by allowing low friction between two surfaces which are supposed to move in rotary or sliding motion. Thus we can have smooth motion of the vehicle.

To ensure smoothness of the bearings it is recommended to apply a fair amount of lubrication in the bearing. Lubrication will separate two surface of the bearing by a film of lubricating oil. Less friction between the bearing surfaces ensures longevity of the product. There are several other factors that are considered during design of a bearing. The design criteria include the required starting torque of the machine, ability of withstanding the harsh environment inside the machine, rigidity and types of material better suitable to serve its purpose. Designers also consider the maximum load that it has to carry for a specified machine.

So as a buyer of the product you also have to remember those above mentioned factors. There are many bearings available in the market; you must know which one is better suited to serve your purpose. Know the minimum specification that is required to withstand its work environment. Also consider the cost and brand of the product.

Bearings that are suffering from friction will make harsh noises. In such condition we have to use lubricating oils to stop the friction otherwise the system may break down. The Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers have invented different lubricating oil suitable for different work environment of the bearing.
